You can't handle the tooth

They say things come in threes... and that seems to be the case with LB's teeth!
She started with one on the bottom, then it was two on the bottom and now she's getting a top tooth as well!
I know she's supposed to be getting her front teeth in first, but that top tooth seems pretty far off to her left side....  Now, we all know that I'm a medical idiot, but I'm pretty sure I know what the 'front teeth' are... and I think this is one of her vampire teeth. . .
She's been doing pretty good with her teeth coming in..  She has waken in the night screaming, but nothing too terrible. She'll fall back asleep within an hour (usually)...  I'm so thankful, because I've heard/read some real terror stories!

...Now, I just hope she doesn't get my sweet tooth...

Losing it

I've always been one to eat whatever they want and gain a bunch of weight.   I used to go to some really good cardio classes at a gym to offset my eating... and it worked.  Then, I got married and moved... and moved.. and moved. and moved and moved again, finally settling into H2oVille.  For three years I didn't workout, I bought a treadmill, and sporadically used it...  Then I had LB and packed on the poundage.  I was able to lose all of that except this pesky 10 pounds.  I've joined this laughable gym... it's weight room is smaller than my living/dining room! The workout class room is 1/2 the size ... and people are always walking through it to get to the weight room.. ..But they have classes, and that's the type of motivation that I need...   However, Ask me how much weight I lost...  I dare you.    NONE!
I can only figure that it MUST be my 'eat whatever I want to diet'.  .   .   .and to that I say:  BOO.
I know I need to make healthier choices.. for example: Today, when I went in for the 3rd piece of chocolate, I should have, instead, grabbed some carrots.  The only issue I have with that is... well.  CARROTS DO NOT TASTE LIKE CHOCOLATE!
Mojo!!! Stay away from my sweets!

I've decided that I will rid the house of sugar. Jackie Warner style.  Did you guys watch her most recent Bravo show? The one where she goes into their houses to make sure they've rid the house of all sugar?  I'm going to be like the woman who baked a bunch of cookies and things... and to dispose of them? I shall eat it all! muah ha ha ha!  Oh my! That must've been my evil sweet tooth taking over!
In all seriousness, if I did, indeed, get rid of all the sugar in my house, I should donate it  it wouldn't last.  I would be out buying more goodies by weeks end. That wouldn't work for me... nor would it work for Jerk Faces wallet....
ugh. I'm not a dieter. I don't know how..or have the willpower. I think they are stupid because things I cannot understand or do are stupid. and I just don't want to. I will just have to bring in more fruits and veggies into the house... and less chocolate.  *frownie face*
Wish me luck, today is grocery day...

Classic

Jerk Face and I were shopping for some new toys for LB the other day.  We came across:
It is a record player that we both played with as a kid...  and it is labelled as "classic
Really?  Classic!?

I've never really thought about age and aging before....  but this really makes me feel old!!!
(Actually, I think I'll use the term 'classic'... it's not as harsh!)

After I thought about it for a little bit...  Kids today probably have no idea what a record is... they will probably NEVER hear one...  and a dial phone?! Forget it!  I can imagine explaining to LB what that little 'tail' is coming from the phone!!!

What makes you feel outdated?

Just Some Small Talk after dinner

When I was cleaning up after dinner last night, I cut my finger.  It will probably fall off. I had to use TWO band-aids! This is SERIOUS STUFF!!!

KSK: I just cut my finger off! {Trying to get some sympathy}
JerkFace: You'll be fine.
KSK: Look at how much I'm bleeding! I probably cut my artery!!!{being very dramatic}
JerkFace: I suppose you could be a mutant and have an artery in your finger...
KSK: ...oh.  {realizing I am indeed a medical idiot}

No sympathy at all! I barely got him to put on my band-aid! :)

It's dinner time!

I don't usually cook anymore...  I eat cold cereal (usually cinnamon life and I add more cinnamon - -I know, I'm a freak) -- for breakfast and lunch....  and sometimes, even supper.  Yes. It's true.  I'm a homemaker IN TRAINING!!! Give me a break!
What does Jerk Face eat? He's a big boy! He can fend for himself! He usually makes a sandwich -- besides, he eats about 2-3 hours earlier than I would like to.
When I DO make supper, however, I like to make the sort of things that you need to make a special trip to the grocery store. You know, just so you have the ingredients. . .much to Jerk Faces chagrin.  Tonight, was one of those scenarios.  I had some butternut squash (it WAS for LB, but her tummy can't handle it-so I had to use it for something else).  So I scoured my favorite website www.allrecipes.com. and came across this:

Butternut Squash Stuffed Shells

Ingredients

  • 2 butternut squash, quartered and seeded
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon minced rosemary
  • salt to taste
  • 1 (16 ounce) package jumbo pasta shells
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 red onion, sliced thin
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 cups cream
  • 2 tablespoons goat cheese
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • cooking spray
  • 1 (10 ounce) bag spinach
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Directions

  1. Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil over high heat. Boil squash until very tender, 8-10 minutes. Lift squash out of water with a slotted spoon; cool slightly and peel. Combine cooked squash, garlic, 1/2 cup cream, 2 tablespoons butter, and 1 teaspoon rosemary in a food processor; process until squash is smooth. Salt to taste.
  2. Bring the water back to a boil, adding more if necessary. Stir in the shell pasta, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still very firm to the bite, about 10 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink.
  3. Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Stir in red onion and brown sugar. Cook and stir over low heat, until onion is very soft and sweet, about 15 minutes. Remove from skillet; reserve. Melt 1/4 cup butter in the same skillet. Sprinkle flour into butter and stir until incorporated. Pour in 3 1/2 cups cream; whisk in goat cheese and remaining 1 teaspoon rosemary. Cook until sauce is thick, 4-6 minutes. Stir in the reserved onions.
  5. Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Scatter spinach over bottom of dish. Stuff pasta shells evenly with butternut squash mixture and place atop spinach. Bake shells in preheated oven until hot, about 10 minutes. Top with sauce, and sprinkle with parsley to serve.

This makes a LOT! I only used 1 squash and have quite a bit left over.  I also mixed some goat cheese in with the squash filling.   *and put some spinach leaves into the shells.
Try it and Enjoy!

Let us compare, shall we?

Jerk Face and I were having a very in depth conversation. . . and now I will make you privy to it!

We compared LB and Mojo:

LB :  Doesn't like to cuddle much
Mojo: Doesn't like to cuddle much

LB:  Likes to chew on things
Mojo: Likes to chew on things

LB: Likes crinkly paper
Mojo: Likes crinkly paper

LB: Has sharp nails and likes to scratch me
Mojo: Has sharp nails and likes to scratch me

LB: We have to clean up her potty place
Mojo: We have to clean up his potty place

LB: Cries when she's hungry
Mojo: Cries when he's hungry

LB: I give her treats
Mojo: I give him treats

I think it's time Jerk Face and I face it.....  We have 2 Minjas....

Just some Small Talk about Lawrence...

On Tuesday, while watching Magic Moments/50s Pop on WGTE:

KSK: "Oh! I love this song! Sugar in the morning, sugar in the evening, sugar at supper time...
 Do you like this song?"

Jerk Face: "I've never heard this song..."

KSK: "What?!"  {in shock and disbelief}

Jerk Face: "Some of us had normal childhoods and didn't watch Lawrence Welk."

...Have any of you watched Lawrence Welk???

Couch Potato

I LOVE to furniture shop! I'm not sure why...  If we could afford to buy new furniture for our house every year... I probably would.  I just like to change it up every now and then :)
But nonetheless, we have had the same furniture for 5 years... which really isn't THAT long... I know. However, it wasn't the greatest quality of furniture and it's been through three moves!

We're talking about the living room furniture today (Our bedroom suite is still in pretty good condition).  The couches are the typical couches that it seems EVERYONE has ...

**We put the bunny in LB's boppy so Mojo doesn't lay in it... Instead, he lays on our couches.

What's wrong with our couches?  Glad you asked!

They sit REALLY low to the ground (*that's not how they were purchased!)--And when you sit down, you sink down low... so low, you might as well sit on the ground!
...And the back started falling off, with the nails showing (as pictured above). . .
Staples are protruding out of the bottom... Not good for LB's scooting adventures!
Jerk Face doesn't like how the arms are so high... It doesn't make for easily accessible side tables....
Not to mention the massive amounts of baby spit up and minja fur on them!

...So, we've been perusing furniture stores for a while now...
Never really serious...  but Saturday, it happened!
We went out.. I told Jerk Face that we might not find anything, but we can just look...
We went to Appliance Center.. (There was a couch there I REALLY liked about a year ago.. We just didn't like the price tag...  with a new baby on the way, and a non-de-clawed Minja -- who REALLY likes to scratch-- I couldn't see spending $4000+ on just a couch....)
This time there was absolutely NOTHING!  A quick visit! We surprised ourselves by being in and out in less than 20 minutes!!!  So onward we go.. to an outlet store I like visiting.  They have cute stuff, and rotate their stock every few weeks...  a few months ago they had a super nice sleigh bed -(I called my sister-- because she loves them -- but they weren't in the market for a new bed)-- it was a shame to let it go...
Anyways, this time we walked in, and took about 15 steps in, just as Colette (pronounced COE-lette) approached us - - I saw it.  It was what I've been looking for, and can never seem to find!  A bluish sectional with the chaise on it's LEFT side!
We've also decided that we wanted two chairs flanking the fireplace.. but have never found the PERFECT chairs, I've looked in countless stores and online...  but as we walked around this store... BEHOLD:

The perfect chair!  I never planned on having two matching chairs... I wanted to go for a semi-eclectic look... but I love these chairs SO much, we got both of them!  I thought that if I don't like the way they look in the living room, they would look great in our bedroom :)

Now, we just need a new rug ... I think we need an 8x10 and some throw pillows to tie the couch and chairs together better...  and I imagine a small ottoman to sit between the chairs with a little serving tray on top...
Perhaps a new side table as well... nothing big and overwhelming.. I like the openess that we have going on now!

OH! ..And are they comfy?  You bet!
I almost forgot what a COMFORTABLE couch FELT LIKE!!!

!!!!I almost forgot to tell you about our old couches!!!!
I wanted to bring them to a goodwill store, but Jerk Face didn't want to...  He won the debate, mostly because I can't carry them myself!  So, we put them out on the curb...  Several hours later, Jerk Face was leaving to buy bulk item tags to stick on them...  He started his truck... then I heard him turn it off.  He came back inside....  They were gone!  Those magical junk fairies were out and about again!

Happy Spring!!!

Yes, Everyone! Spring has arrived!   HOOray!
We painted our pantry door with chalkboard paint .. .. and because of that, I draw things on it... my favorite is my winter scene.. usually consisting of a snowman. This year, I 'melted' the snowman in the days leading up to spring.  Jerk Face said it was a bit morbid....   I'll share with you all anyways! *note: I didn't take a picture of the original snowman...  He already started melting in this first one!  (if you couldn't tell!)

*Jerk Face told me to 'blog about it' -- I know he was making fun, but I thought it was a cute idea!
Way to go, Jerk Face!

Jumping Bean

LB has a jumper that she just LOVES!!! **!Thanks BF Miss Chris!**  (and Jerk Face and I love that she loves it -- we can get some things done!)
The only thing that I'm not too keen on is:   it has this purple seahorse teether thing....  which LB LOVES to chew........ so she loves to eat it... and jump.....    Does this seem safe?
Am I just being a crazy mom?  She hasn't hurt herself on it ..yet...
The thought of cutting it off has ran through my mind...  but they wouldn't put it on there if it wasn't safe... would they?
She's been using it for a few months now and hasn't hurt herself ...(yet)
  ... So, I'll keep it attached  .. .. .. .. for now  :)

LB, jumping away in with said seahorse in her mouth.

Do you see the seahorse?
She's putting it in her mouth!

Just Some Small Talk about challenges

Jerk Face:  "Do you know what I'm challenged most with?"

KSK: "Thinking?"

hahahahahahaha!!!

Sometimes I crack myself up!
(Actually, MOST of the time I crack myself up!)

Spring is in the Air

Doobie Doobie Do!
Remember those Bud Ice Penguins?

Don't get me wrong, I like winter... Jerk Face thinks I'm crazy...  I just love the Snowmen, Christmas, the start of a New Year, making cookies, my birthday in January, cozy blankets, hot cocoa, watching the snow fall as I'm baking ... .. .
BUT!
I had a taste of Spring yesterday .. and now I got the fever!

LB, Jerk Face and I went for a nice walk.. OUTSIDE!!  The sunshine did us all some good :)
LB was tossing her toys out of her stroller left and right... we almost lost 'Miss Daisy' --her favorite flower rattle! Jerk Face had to run back  - dodging dangerous suburban traffic - just to get it back.  I'm sure LB will be forever grateful! :)

~LB sick-o update:
**LB's still sick ..and so am I and so is Jerk Face... We're all a bunch of sick-os up in here! She gets the 'treatment' every 4 hours (when she's not sleeping)... I feel like I'm poisoning her or something! I hold this gas mask up to her face -much to her dismay- and I'm all like (in sinister movie vixen voice): 'breathe it in little girl... hahaha!' ...as the smoke envelopes her!
...confession...  Since I am now Down With The Sickness...  I try to inhale the excess smoke! hahahaha!  I'm sick... and not just with her virus!**

My Springtime Plans

  • Walk everyday outside... weather permissible of course! :)  I'm sick of the dreadmill... ugh!
  • Go through LB's clothes and pack up the things she can't fit into anymore.
  • Finish re-painting my laundry room!!!
  • And a great many other things that I'm not going to post right now!  (under promise, over deliver... or just forget about it since I didn't publish it and you won't know if I did it or not!)
Have you caught the fever yet?  Do you have any springtime plans?

Sicko

My poor sweets!
Do you remember that I told you that LB was being extra fussy this past week? I wasn't sure if she was sick or teething... The symptoms of teething are:  'cold like symptoms'   ....How a useful!
She is not feeling well, but she'll STILL smile for the camera!
Well, by Sunday, I was pretty certain that it wasn't teething and that she was indeed sick.  Her nose was running nonstop, sneezing, coughing, she was tired all day - almost fell asleep in her eating chair!  And she was crying.. not just fussing anymore! She would only sleep when she was held.. Makes it a long night for mom! She was so congested! Jerk Face helped her by steaming up the bath room and hanging out in  there with her -- That really helped her! I felt like she could at least breath for a little while!
Monday morning, Jerk Face called the doctor and we got the only open appointment they had left! Thank Goodness!
Turns out, My Poor Tweets has RSV.  It's a very contagious respiratory virus. It can even cause pneumonia! ..but that's rare...
I was very happy with our Nurse Practitioner! Evangeline :)  She took her time with us and explained to me what RSV was -- -- -- because I'm a medical idiot! She prescribed a nebulizer to help her breathe.. We get to strap this mask to her face and have her breathe in medicine infused fog...

It's not AS sad as it looks!  ..but it IS sad :(

We had to take off the strap & hold it,
because she tries to eat it!

just checking it out

Smiling for the camera :)

I have to hold her still with this mask on for 10 minutes every 4 hours!  She doesn't mind it for a little while, I think she's fascinated by the smoke at first, but then she gets bored and want to put something in her mouth!!
Have you had to care for a sick baby? What did you do to try to help soothe baby?

She does really good, though... And I reward her with a girl scout cookie for me! :)  YAY! They came in!  I love the lemon cookies! Mmmm!

What are your favorite GSCookies?  I think I will make that a new quiz -- It's on the sideline of my page! Take the time and vote!  :)

Girls Week

Jerk Face has been out of town this past week.  He went to warm and sunny Arizona...  and THAT's why he is 'Jerk Face', my friends!  ~*smile*~  He left wearing shorts for Pete's sake!   FYI: .  .  .It snowed in Ohio today.   .    .
Just to make my week just THAT much more special - - LB is either sick or teething..  Her nose is runny and she has had a MAJOR case of the Fussbutts since Wednesday.

But! Let me get to the good stuff!  :)
LB and I got to watch whatever we wanted (well... I did, anyways... LB doesn't know sign language yet-so she can't tell me what she wants to watch)
I got to eat some good old junk food!
I got to sleep sideways (That's weird, I know... but I like to sleep ACROSS the bed sometimes..a different point of view, perhaps?)
I saw my little brother as he was leaving for work!
We got to visit the in-laws and ate some really good food :)   **Jerk Face is jealous btw!
We visited LB's great grandparents as well!  It was nice seeing you guys! *Pizza and fruit was really good! I ate so much, I didn't need supper!!!
We visited with my sister and B-I-L--always fun!
***Have you guys ever watched My Big Redneck Baby?  It's on CMT.  There's also My Big Redneck Wedding and My Big Redneck Intervention!! HA! Seriously!
I would like to thank J&N for opening my eyes to the fabulous television programming that can be found on CMT :)

All in all, it was a good and busy week... LOTS of driving!  I didn't get some of the home projects finished that I wanted to... but that's okay--there will be more time for those.  I am just happy that Jerk Face will be home tonight!!!

That's all I have for now!  Have a wonderful weekend!  ***And don't forget to change your clocks!! We get to Spring Forward!  :)  It's coming!

Lent is upon us... Bring on the fish!

So today is Ash Wednesday -  The beginning of Lent. . .
The time of year when you give something up... or do something.. that would be .. a struggle.. for you...
I've decided to give up the facebook.  It is usually up on my computer and when I get a spare second, I check it...  It's a sick and twisted addiction :)  ..but Facebook is also my 'lifeline' .. it's how I connect with friends and some family.... and because of this, I am allowing myself to get on the facebook on Fridays..
...It's a little bit of a cheat, but I feel like it's okay!

Lent also means......
super fish sandwich deals at fast food chains!
                                                                                                 yummy!!!

Last year I got to know the zit faced kid at my local McDonald's pretty good :)
...I think I might pay him a visit today :)

What are you doing for Lent?
